Despite the fact that LED lights are becoming more commonly used, some people still don’t think it’s right to use LED lights for homes.
LED lights for homes are not as unusual as you might think. People are already using LED lights as part of the exterior lights on their houses and as track or recessed lighting in their kitchens. There are even bathroom LED lights. One good use for bathroom LED lights is to illuminate the bathroom without leaving on the overhead light. If you have to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, having soft LED bathroom lighting to guide you could prevent you from waking anybody else and prevent you from hurting yourself. Clearly, the idea of LED lights for homes is catching on. LED lights are sold all over the place on the Internet. Select types of lights, such as landscape or under-the-counter LEDs, can purchased in home improvement stores.
For the truly energy conscious, there are even solar LED lights. Target sells solar LED lights in strings of 50 each, in white or multi-colored. One person who reviewed the lights on Target’s website used the lights to decorate the outside of her house, while another used them to create a star on the top of his Christmas tree. As outdoor lighting, solar LEDs offer double savings. Not only will you not have to replace your lights for several years, but because they’re solar powered, you won’t increase your electric bill one iota when you use them.
LED lights use less energy than incandescent, which will soon be rendered obsolete. LEDs are still a little expensive, it’s true, but as more and more people start using LED lights, the cost will continue to go down. Also, LED lights can have a life span of 10,000 to 50,000 hours, and several only use a few watts of electricity. Compare that to the 40, 60 and 75 watts that incandescent bulbs use, and you will see how LEDs can save you money. Add in the fact that the average incandescent bulb only lasts for 750 to 1,500 hours.
Considering all the pluses to using LED lights for homes, such as energy efficiency, long life and versatility, it’s easy to see why so many people are willing to give LED lights a try. If they’re still beyond your budget, be patient. In time, LED lights will be as affordable as their disappearing incandescent counterparts.
