Dental logos: a general guide

Not only is dentistry one of the developed world’s highest- paid professions; it is also expanding alongside the growing population. Advertisements in the yellow pages feature their often colorful logos. Thus, an expressive dental logo is important for every practitioner in the field.

Dentistry differs from business in a number of important ways. Whereas marketing businesses have to compete with one another to sell the highest quality products, dental offices are usually chosen by those who live within commuting distance of them. It is nonetheless crucial for dentists to inspire their patients’ confidence in them. Particularly with parents of young children, who may dread visiting the dentist. Unfortunately, so many dentists fail to grasp how effective a logo can be when it comes to achieving results. It should not surprise anyone that most dental logs look appallingly alike.

To be really effective, a dental logo should fulfill several criteria. It should create the idea that patients seeking dental care here will receive the best they can get. And it should demonstrate how efficient the practitioner is. But- more than anything else- the logo needs to single out the office it stands for, as one that is superior to all competing offices. It is this image, after all, which will be the first thing that people notice when reading brochures and business cards from this office. Those people are right who say that “you only get one chance to make a good first impression.”

There are businesses that are in the business of creating and printing dental logos. And these logos really are eye- catching! City Dental’s logo consists of a carmine background with a white figure of toothpaste on a toothbrush whose bristles form a skyline of a city. More striking still is Garden City Dental’s logo: It shows four toothbrushes- of different heights and colors- decorated like plants, with leaves. It is plain to see that a dental logo does not have to be elaborate- indeed, like any advertising symbol, it should be as uncomplicated as possible, so that viewers need not waste time analyzing them- but they can be imaginative and expressive, so long as they achieve the desired effect.

Color, as the part of design that tends to be impressed the most on one’s memory, is for that reason one of the most crucial parts. The colors chosen should reveal something about the business they represent. With the example of dentistry, red, pink, and white, as colors of the mouth, are appropriate.

Every city or town have several dental offices, many of them private. The quality of the dental logo often determines how successful a particular office is in drawing in patients.
