Overcome the problem of lake weeds

Weeds get on to nerves if seen in the lakes. These are small bushes that grow in lagoons and attract the wildlife. If they are in small amount, it could be still managed but there are some wild plants that grow rapidly and cause serious problems. Massively growing weeds is one reason of summers arriving nearer because they grow in high temperature.

The water bodies like ponds, lakes and reservoirs get throttled with the hoes that the aquatic flora and fauna suffers a lot. The dense growth of the wild plants and flower cuts the rays of sunlight to penetrate in the lake and reach the plants and aquatic mammals. Lake weeds are of many types like the one floating on the surface, submerged one and the emergent ones. Due to the occurrence of high quantity of nitrogen and phosphate in the lake, blanket weed is the wildest and highly occurring hoe. It is really important to control them and if we remove them, they must be buried or burnt. Burying them would not be a threat as these are bio degradable. Any method could be used for their removal depending on the technology available i.e. mechanical, chemical, biologically and even manually.

• Chemical method

In this, herbicide could be bought from the market and sprayed in the lake. It is a short term course. This method is useful in keeping a check but excess use of chemicals would make the lake resistant to herbicides and algaecides. Thus they must be used carefully and just required to use to obstruct the growth of the wild plants and flowers.

• Mechanical method

The weeds could be removed with the help of machines automatically. There are aquatic harvesters that are used to remove the former. Mechanical methods could be used for both large scale and small scale lagoon. If this method is opted for, then it would be beneficial if time to time use of the machine is done to control the further growth of hoes.

• Biological method

In this method, help of decorative plants and packed bacteria is taken to remove the weeds. They are immersed into the pond and the nutrients are removed in natural way. This is because, it has been known for ages that the growth of weeds in enhanced with the presence of nutrients and brought to an end with the help of bacteria. So far this method is said to be the best method. Benthic method is also used where no chemical is used.

• Manual method

Initially when technologies were not introduced, people use to put an end to lake weeds manually. They used to go into the lake and pull out all the hoes. It used to take a long time to complete one particular portion but still weeds were left behind. This was not so successful method if the lake was big one. So the above methods were introduced.

Apart from the manual technique, all other techniques are being used to control the growth of wild weeds. If there is a lake or you own one, it is your duty to clean it up time to time. They are imperative natural resources and preserving them from perished and catastrophic hoes is must.
