On this day, first the royal couple worships the Mother Goddess in the Chamundeshwari Temple on the Chamundi Hill and then the idol of the Goddess is taken in a procession starting from the iconic Mysore palace. Goddess Chamundeshwari idol is made seated in a 750 kg golden howdah, placed on a gold-laden elephant. The procession contains many other elephants too as well as camels and horses, all laden with gold. Various cultural programs, sports, tableaux of various Indian states and spectacular firework shows make the procession still more magnificent. The Mysore Dasara 2012 exhibition will be remarkable because of freedom from plastic and battery-operated vehicles for senior and physically challenged citizens.
