Book Your Tickets Conveniently With the Online Mode of Indian Rail Reservation System

The first passenger train took the Mumbai-Thane route in the year of 1853. By the end of 1895, India started building the locomotives for its own use and by 1947, there were almost forty-two rail systems. Today, the railway system in India has reached new heights with it being the second largest employer in the world, state-of-art real-time booking structure and the economical fares.

There are long-distance trains and suburban trains (local). Apart from these passenger trains, there are cargo trains, which transport million tonnes of freight every year. India has 8300 locomotives and there are production units throughout the country to manufacture the parts of these locomotives. Chittaranjan produces electronic locomotives and Varanasi produces diesel trains. Kapurthala has a manufacturing unit for wheels and axles. The Indian train system runs on three gauges – the broad gauge, the metre gauge and the standard gauge.

Rail is the best form of travel for the senior citizens, Indian military, Navy, and Government employees since they are eligible for rebates on ticket fares. The passengers can travel in Sleeper Class, AC 2-tier, AC 3-tier, First Class, Seater-type and the unreserved compartment coaches. All trains have a special ladies’ compartment too.

Making an online booking is the easiest method of ticket reservation. The passengers have the option of requesting for an E-ticket or an I-ticket. When you book an E-ticket, you will get a confirmation either in your e-mail or on your mobile phone. You can take a print of this ticket or produce the confirmation on your mobile phone. You have to carry a valid ID proof such as the voter’s ID, ration card or your passport to produce it to the TTR once you board the train.

When you book an I-ticket, you will get the physical copy of the ticket by post within a day or two. You can book an I-ticket only four days prior to the travel and you will have to carry a valid ID proof with you. There is an extra charge (minimum) that you will have to pay for booking this ticket.

If you wish to cancel the E-ticket, you can conveniently do so online and the system will automatically credit the refund amount to your account. However, in order to cancel the I-ticket, you will have to visit the railway reservation counter but the amount will be credited to your account within the next seven working days.
