Server Virtualization Increases the Demand for Enterprise Data on the iPad
As businesses realize the massive value of server virtualization, IT managers are demanding access to enterprise data on their iPad, according to a server virtualization company VMware.
Server virtualization has innumerable benefits for the enterprise of today. According to a survey by Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), about 74 percent of North American enterprise and large midmarket organizations already have server virtualization in place while about 12 percent are either scoping out its advantages for their business or have already entered the pilot phase. The survey results are based on responses of 1,602 IT professionals.
As businesses realize the massive value of server virtualization, IT managers are demanding access to enterprise data on their iPad, according to a server virtualization company VMware. The company plans to launch iPad applications that help IT managers monitor existing installations. Moreover, the firm plans to release software tools that provide secure access to iPad as well as cloud based applications in 2011.
CEOs’ increased demand for access to enterprise data on the iPad owes to the convenience and simplicity of the device. The easy operability along with familiarity with other similar devices such as the iPod Touch or the iPhone is an added advantage. iPad applications are inexpensive ranging from 99 cents to 5 dollars, which widens the scope of experimentation. The compatibility of the device with Word and Spreadsheets makes working with documents comfortable.
The best part about iPad application development is that the applications can be customized according to the company’s business requirements. This allows CEOs to meet their specific needs and lowers the cost of development. Using virtualization applications, CEOs can access their desktop on the iPad. It helps them perform their tasks efficiently and comfortably even when they are not near their desktop.
However, virtualized applications still have grey areas such as security and data leakage, which need to be tackled. Virtualization companies are working on tools to establish security policies across internal and public clouds. A virtual private network available in a secure environment with the convenience of iPad applications is the perfect mix that CEOs will be looking for to maximize their efficiency.
