Nu Round 2? – OL’ school IV
Five years ago, Jordan Brand tried something new with the older models of Air Jordans – the “Nu Retros”. These shoes were modified versions of the classic models. Though one could see the similarities in the Nu Retro 1, most, including myself, were lost in finding the similarities in the Nu Retro 2. The Nu Retro line stopped there. By many measures, these were not a successful campaign. Not a single model sold well at retail stores and many ended up at outlets selling for as low as $19.99.
Next year as the Air Jordan celebrates its 23rd year, Jordan Brand will be releasing a line of new models that take design inspriations from many classic Air Jordans rather than reworking the classics. The first model the public will see with this will be the Air Jordan Ol’ School.
At first glance one can see a similarity to the silhouette shape of the Air Jordan 2, but there are many other elements that take inspiration from other models. For starters the fuzzy, circular logo on the tongue is unmistakably inspired by the Air Jordan 8, the double row of lace holes from the Jordan 17, and the lone lace lock from the Air Jordan 6.
