Depression in Children

Depression afflicts millions of people every day and that comprise children. People often neglect this fact since children are seen to have a stress-free life and all they do is to study, eat, and play. Often, adults believe that “temper tantrums” are common for children particularly if they do not get what they desire. Few children cry a lot especially those who have delicate personalities. Some children are vocal about their ideas especially fearful ones and ask questions from adults. Some children get depressed when a loved one dies such as a grandparent. Children can also be affected by sudden changes like transferring to a new neighborhood or school. As part of life’s change, parents must affirm their children during adjustment periods.A parents’ divorce is a stressful and painful condition that a child may face and this could leadto depression. On the other hand, some children hide their feelings and demonstrate irrational angry behavior.

Adults Play an Important Role

It is however crucial for parents to attend to their children ones such behavior is seen.Depression in children can be distinguished by the following signs: changes in eating habits, withdrawal from play sessions, changing sleep patterns, unexplained irritability, inability to execute playtime tasks, poor concentration, sudden fatigue, and etc. Whatever the cause of depression is, adults should seek instant professional treatment to minimize trauma in childhood.
