Ice Music
Norwegian composer and musician Terje Isungset will be playing a variety of instruments carved out of the ice of ancient glaciers from Norway. Singer Lena Nymark will accompany him as he toots on ice trumpets and rattles ice percussion instruments. Masterpiece A Month: Presiding Genius
Dulwich Gallery is celebrating its 200 year anniversary by bringing in artistic loans from all over the globe to display every month over the course of the year. 12 paintings in total will be displayed, including pieces by Rembrandt, Vincent Van Gogh, John Constable, and David Hockney, which will all be accompanied by lectures discovering what each painting is about. January’s masterpiece is ‘Portrait of Sir John Soane’ by Sir Thomas Lawrence, which aptly starts the year as Sir John Soane was the founder of the Dulwich Picture Gallery. EVENT
Cirque Du Soleil: TOTEM
This new Cirque Du Soleil show focuses on humans’ evolution from amphibian right up to the desire to fly. Dancing on skates, balancing on bars and trapezing across the stage all form part of the show. There are some excellent costumes too, designed by Kym Barrett and adorned with thousands of crystals that glimmer in the light. Met Opera: La Fanciulla del West

This annual film festival is back with a plethora of short films under its belt. There will be a range of screenings to see including brand new short films, films exploring being a disabled filmmaker, retrospectives of directors’ works, and workshops from industry experts. English National Ballet: Romeo and Juliet
Shakespeare’s tragic love story is brought to life by Rudolf Nureyev, who created this magnificent staging of Romeo and Juliet especially for The English National Ballet in 1977. The Company has since performed it worldwide to critical acclaim. Get swept into Renaissance Verona with Nureyev’s inventive choreography and sumptuous costumes and sets. English National Ballet’s full orchestra plays Prokofiev’s exhilarating score. Patricia Ruanne and Frédéric Jahn, who played the original Juliet and Tybalt when Nureyev created the ballet in 1977, returned to coach the dancers.
