Self-hypnosis and You: How to make the most out of your hypnosis sessions
Are you planning to use hypnosis on yourself? Here are some things to consider if you seriously want to try self-hypnosis.
Be sure that you know everything there is to know about hypnosis and self-hypnosis. You should understand exactly what it is, what the procedure is exactly, your participation in it, the cost and risks involved.
You should make sure that you do a thorough check on the hypnotist who will train you (to do the self-hypnosis) if this is the way you will do it. If you plan to just use resources that you’ve gathered and perform a true self-hypnosis session, you should understand exactly what the process requires. It is probably best that you enlist the help of a friend or another person who has an honest concern about your well-being during the hypnotic procedure. This person can help you later on as a witness to the session whether or not you meet the objective you set for that session. Make sure that the source where you got your induction script is a reputable and reliable one that can be held accountable for the hypnosis.
Be clear about the objective for the hypnosis. This directly affects the script you will use to induce hypnosis in terms of the choice of words, visualizations and imagery, music and so on. All of these will be used in helping you meet the goal you set for the hypnosis. Be realistic with the goals you set. Hypnosis doesn’t change your physique although it can enhance your way of thinking and self-awareness so you can perform better.
Be aware of the limitations of hypnosis. If you set out thinking that you can become a superman or woman through hypnotic induction, you may have the wrong mindset about it. Hypnosis can help you become a better person by helping you overcome unwanted behaviors but it cannot change who you are physically.
Participate fully during the hypnosis. For the hypnosis to be successful you need to be active during the session. This means that you must be willing to follow the suggestions contained in the script. If you think you won’t be able to follow another’s suggestions, you may reconsider using hypnosis as the strategy to meeting your objective.
Keep in mind that hypnosis is only one tool to help you. If you are trying to overcome an addictive behavior hypnosis may be only one aspect of your treatment. You will need the support of another or an organization in order to be successful in meeting your objective.
