Do It like A Parisian

Why be a tourist when you can be a local? Nowadays you don’t have to settle for scouring the web for decent hotels in decent neighborhoods. You don’t have to be cramped or uncomfortable in small rooms that cost an arm and a leg, because Paris like most great cities offers either very expensive rooms in very expensive hotels or smaller rooms in small neighborhood hotels that can often leave you feeling well, cramped. But now all you have to do is go to BTS-Travel to learn how to do Paris, well, like a Parisian.

First, try renting your own place. Choose your neighborhood: Do you want to be on the Left Bank, right under the Eiffel Tower? Imagine getting up one morning, throwing open your windows to soak in the gorgeous view of the Eiffel Tower. Voila! You can walk through the Champs du Mars, pick up a picnic form any one of the incredible bakeries along the way, a bottle of wine too. Slip into the Rodin Museum across form the Ecole Militaire and it’s like slipping into another world. Rodin’s home surrounded by an enormous garden, lush and wild with his massively powerful sculptures throughout. See how he lived. Feel what he felt.

Or, do you prefer to be in the center, near the American Embassy, the Ritz Hotel and of course the Tuilerie gardens with the incredible walk to the Louvre? Here along the fames Rue du Rivoli, you can spend your afternoons visiting antique stores and old English bookshops, art galleries and shop at the most famed boutiques in Paris. This is, after all, the stomping ground of Coco Channel.

A great way to spend an afternoon is to rent bicycles. There really is no better way to get to know the ins and outs of the city and Paris is quite easy to navigate, just follow the Seine! From the Louvre, one can go all the way down to Notre Dame and Ile St. Louis for the best ice cream in Paris and the best view in the entire world, at the famed La Maison Berthillion.

Are you a Picasso lover? If so, you cannot miss the Musee Picasso in the Marais district of Paris, one of the most architectural stunning districts of the city. And speaking of stunning, and this will certainly get you hungry for dinner, there is no more picturesque site than Montmarte at dusk. On your way back to the first arrondisemont, head up to Montmartre and have a drink in the square where all the great artists once lived and worked. Everyone from Picasso, to Monet, Manet, Rodin, all oft hem, lived here and worked here. And really when you sit in this square and drink a glass of rose, it feels as if one of them might just walk though for old times sake.

If you have the time you might want to visit Arc de Triomphe or Napoleon’s Triumphal Arc and then watch the night pass you by on the Champs Elysees. If it’s a movie and dinner you’re after, then you really have the world at your fingertips here. Its famous cinemas and theatres are a big draw all over the France. If you happen to be in Paris on Christmas or New Years Eve, you wouldn’t want to miss out on the celebrations and the fireworks. And if you happen to visit sometime during midyear, you wouldn’t want to miss out on the beautifully arrayed military parades on July 14th.

Or, for a quiet night, take a walk along the Seine back to your rented houseboat. Here in Paris there is so little crime, people are just too busy being in love with the city to think of anything else.
