Discover What You Need To Get A Print Quote
I’m going to take a quick look at how you can ensure that when you request a print quote, you get the best possible deal. For most people ordering print is a relatively rare event. Perhaps once every couple of months or less. Given that you’re doing the print buying as part of a much wider brief, but the printing business that’s providing you with a quote do this job every day – that can put you at a bit of a disadvantage when requesting a print quote.
Fortunately it doesn’t need to be that way and today I want to provide you with the tools you need to level the print quote request playing field.
1. Be clear about your print quote specification:
This should seem obvious to you, but it’s all too easy to end up being rather vague. “I just need 5,000 brochures printed”, rather than being specific about the material, thickness, finishes like gloss or matt lamination, and so on.
2. Give each printer you ask to quote precisely the same brief:
It’s amazing how varied the printing prices you receive back from a simple print quote request might be. But this is usually accounted for by a slightly different brief being given to each printer. Or perhaps more likely, each printer making slightly different assumptions. So be insistent that your printer works to precisely the same brief and this will mean that you are at least comparing like with like when it comes to the pricing you receive.
3. Be prepared to hear about alternatives which might help with your print quote pricing:
It’s quite easy to over-specify your print quote request. For example, ask for Conqueror paper (that’s a very specfic premium brand) and you’ll end up paying more. Alter that request to Conqueror or equivalent and the pricing could fluctuate widely. So ask your printer for reasonable alternatives that could slash the cost of your print quote.
4. Don’t deal with printers that need you to chase the quote:
You’d think that all printing companies would be out there keenly trying to win work. That’s not so. Many are very bad at getting back to you with your print pricing and this should serve as an early warning to you. Don’t even dream of working with a printing company who can’t be bothered to get back to you with a price. If they can’t even muster the enthusiasm to price up your printing work then can you imagine what it would be like trying to chase them to deliver your printing? Don’t go there!
Look out for a reliable printer who deals with your print quote request quickly and efficiently. They are invariably the ones that you want to end up working with.
