Why Does Female Hair Loss Occur?

Female hair loss is a problem to many women. Since it affects a person’s appearance and can be thought as embarrassing a lot of women will not discuss the problem. Typically two in ten women suffer from this issue.

There are signs of hair loss in women as well as causes that can be corrected. Some symptoms that could alert a women that a problem may be occurring is if there is thinning all over their head. Also thinning could be occurring in one spot. Opposite than most men, thinning does not just occur in the front hairline.

Female pattern balding is another type of condition that afflicts women. This condition rarely leads to total baldness. However, sometimes it will present itself by balding near the crown or the hair thins over the person’s entire head.

There are many causes of hair loss but one is on the top of the list and that is hormones. Fluctuating hormones can cause hair loss in women. After pregnancy, menopause or times of severe stress can cause this problem. When hormones are in a major fluctuation such as these times in a women’s life, it can easily trigger hair loss. Also a side effect of a recent Hepatitis B vaccination can be hair loss.

There are many other causes of hair loss. Some of these causes could be linked to a vitamin or mineral deficiency, allergies or anemia. Also thyroid, liver or pituitary gland problems have caused this issue. Hair loss is a symptom of lead or mercury poisoning.

Hair loss can be an issue with women or men. It has a more dramatic and traumatic effect on women. Men can bald and look distinguished as they age. In our current society, women do not have that option. Luckily a lot of these causes can be corrected by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, having hair colored by a professional and seeing a physician for annual checkups to head off any problems.
