Why The Double Towel Bar Was Invented
In olden times were talking about cavemen days people would take baths in rivers and streams, a time when even the thought of a bathroom did not exist and after the bath they would use leather or leaves to dry themselves of. So there was no question of different bathroom designs.
The earliest concept of taking a shower only goes back a few hundred years B.C. There are murals and other paintings found on objects like a vase in ancient Greece that shows something fairly close to what we call a shower nowadays. The practice was promoted to further the cause of hygiene.
In Europe it was not until the second half of the 19th century that taking baths fairly regularly became an accepted habit the Prussians get credit for this, because they were the ones who installed a public shower system in their army training camps for their soldiers to use. But interestingly it would still take some time before taking regular baths by today’s standards became a common occurrence.
So then naturally without people taking baths the need for towels was also not there. So eventually when shower taking became a common occurrence the need for towels also happened. That is when the idea to build a place for taking baths and the fixtures along with it became a need.
So naturally when people started to build and use bathrooms the need for drying of became an issue, hence the towel. But then a convenient place to put the towels became an issue and that is when towel bars were invented. The double towel bar is simply an extension of that so that two towels can be put simultaneously.
