Starting To Date Online After Divorce

My aunt divorced her husband about three years ago. They had been married for twenty-two years. Of course, it seems like this could have been a rash decision after so many years of marriage, but the truth is they were just waiting for their second child to graduate high school. In reality, they had maybe only loved each other about four or five of those twenty-two years.

The first year after the divorce, my aunt just enjoyed her freedom. For the first time in nearly twenty-five years, she didn’t have to worry about what anyone else wanted her to fix for dinner, about what way she styled her hair, or even about what brand of toothpaste she purchased. But near the end of the second year of being single again, she started to realize she didn’t want to grow old alone. She missed the idea of companionship she had once dreamed she would have.

This is when she decided to give online dating a shot. I think what ultimately led her to online dating was when her oldest child got engaged. She wasn’t sure if she would find her lifelong companion online, but she knew she didn’t want to go to the wedding as a single.

She first tried using a free online service. This service really didn’t have any rules or parameters, so she instantly started receiving loads of contacts. See, my aunt is truly a beauty – inside and out. Unfortunately, the first round of contacts she received were not really from men that she found interesting on an inner level. After a few emails exchanged here and there and a couple of very lousy first dates, she decided to try a different online service.

This service required a monthly fee, but in the end it was well worth it. This paid service matched their applicants to other applicants on a variety of levels. Everything was kept quite confidential until they were ready to share more personal information. My aunt really fell for the second guy she was matched with by this site. After exchanging emails for about a month, they decided to go out for lunch. Immediately, things began to click. They had many mutual interests, and they seemed to really connect on a deeper, emotional level. Needless to say, that lunch was followed by many other lunches and dinners. And then he kept my aunt from attending my cousin’s wedding as a single. The best part was, he proposed to her at the rehearsal dinner! And now, they are busy planning their own wedding. My aunt has been more than pleased that she decided to give online dating a try. She agreed that after divorcing my uncle, it was really difficult to face the typical dating scene. She wasn’t sure how to meet new people, but online dating really helped her. It helped her find a loving commitment with a lifelong companion.
