How To Install A Carpet

Installing a carpet is not a very easy job to take up. You will have to go hard on your knees and back to in order to install a carpet wall to wall. START WITH THE TOUGH JOB

  • GET RID OF THE OLD ONE NOW- get the old one out and the new one in. Before disposing the old one, make sure you first give it a good vacuuming. Then using a utility knife cut into strips of about 3-4 ft wide.
  • Start from one end, pulling off the strips of the carpet, rolled up into sections. Do not use the old existing underlay in any case even this may be worn out, just like the old one.
  • Make sure that the floor you are going to work on is clean and dry. Check the sub floor, fasten the floor boards, which may be loose, otherwise the board shall not squeak under the carpet.

LAYING THE CARPET:

First, lay the carpet properly and start off with the piece, which overlap’s the floors edge by 4-6 inches. Then if any correction is needed, the carpet can always be trimmed as per the need. When you cut the first section, the room should be measured at the longest point and adding 6 inches to it. The back of the carpet should be marked with the chalk measuring the edges and then join the two marks with the chalk line. Do place a scrap board under the cut line, in order to protect the carpet underneath.

GIVING THE FINAL TOUCH

When you are done with the installation process of the carpet it is now time to give some final touches to give it a perfect look. Trim off any extra part of the carpet and tuck its edges tightly under the baseboard.
