Things You Should Not Forget Come Payday

A lot of people look to the end of the month because of that one happy thing that makes them do a giddy dance: payday. The thought of pay day makes one work harder and gets one excited, but you should hold your horses for the salary that comes at the end of the month should not be blown on something lavish or trivial. Here are some things you should not forget to do with your salary – things to attend to before you have a little left over to spend on fun.

When payday is near, you have to ensure that your monthly payables are well taken care of. This means house utilities and credit card statements, among others. The things that put your life in normal mode and are used on a regular basis must be paid for before anything else. Second, your pay day check must also used to pay off any existing loans you have – whether such loans are long term or short term. If you ignore or skip out a month on your existing loans, they will just balloon up and will be much harder to pay off by the time you are finally ready to face them.

Part of your payday salary should also go into investing – both short term and long term investing. Put a little in your stock portfolio, a little in your bonds and some in mutual funds. This is money you set aside for a rainy day much like the money in the bank, with the exception of the dividends accumulating much faster. After this, make sure that you also tithe and give back a percentage of your pay day salary to your church. Be thankful for your blessings and show thanks by supporting your Church or a worthwhile cause every month in a small way.

When your responsibilities are taken care of, you might want to use part of your payday loan for personal maintenance and upkeep. This includes your regular haircut, vitamins to keep you healthy and in the best condition, a trip to the spa if you feel very stressed out and the like. For some people this can be skipped, but if it will refresh and recharge you enough to wake up vigorous and ready to face the next working week then by all means do it for as long as you are within your budget. After this, spend a bit on the people you love like your family and parents.

Treat them to simple things like ice cream after a home-cooked meal or perhaps take out your parents for a coffee date one weekend. Your salary must also include a “human factor” – necessary expenses that enrich your life, one-off opportunities that establish a better sense of closeness with your family members and the like. After all, no man is an island and it is in spending for these things that make every working  day of your life – and subsequently, every payday that comes your way – worth it and worth looking forward to.
