Recycle Bin and its options

When we delete files, they go to the Recycle Bin, so that if you change mind, you can recover the files from there. There is an option when you right click on the Recycle Bin; it gives you the choice to “Empty Recycle Bin”. When you use that option, the Recycle Bin gets emptied and all the files inside it are deleted. Most think that this deletion is permanent. Actually, you can still recover those files using the right recovery tool. Before going to that, let us explore the Recycle Bin options.

There are two ways to delete files on Windows. You can select a file and then press Delete. A confirmation box will come up asking you that if you are sure that you want to delete the file. If you press yes, the file will be deleted. Whether the file will be send to Recycle Bin or not depends on another option in Recycle Bin. If you select a file and press “Shift” and “Delete”, then the file will not be send to the Recycle Bin regardless of the option in Recycle Bin. A confirmation box will still come up to make sure you want to delete the file.

The options in Recycle Bin allow you to control if you want to send your files to Recycle Bin when deleted. Go to the Recycle Bin Properties. You will get the option to set aside a space for the deleted files for each of the drive. When you delete a file by pressing only “Delete”, the file will go to the Recycle Bin as long there are allocated space for it. There is also an option below that will allow you to delete the files without sending them to Recycle Bin. You can choose that option or you can use “Shift + Delete” option to perform the same task.

Another option below says “Display Delete Confirmation Dialogue” with a check box on the left side. If checked, the conformation box will come up when you try to delete a file. If unchecked, the file will be deleted immediately without asking for your confirmation.

Every now and then, we may accidentally delete a file or two. If we use the “Shift + Delete”, it is already gone. If we use only “Delete”, then it will be in the Recycle Bin if you have allocated space for that. To avoid deletion of your important files, always allocate space for Recycle Bin for each of the drive and have the “Display Delete Confirmation Dialogue” box checked.

Still, accidents may happen and you may permanently delete you files that you need badly. Question is how to recover deleted files that are not in the Recycle Bin?
