BentBend – a Little Pearl of Brain Games

If you like that sort of games that make your grey cells work hard, you are likely to have already played all popular modern brain teasers like Sokoban or Sudoku. If you are looking for a new game to challenge your brain and to have fun at the same time, take a look at BentBend. This little game is a real finding for brain games lovers.

The game may seem too simple at the beginning: at the first level you are presented a small board with a pair of blue cubes. Your aim is to connect them. At the second level the board become a bit bigger and you have two pairs of cubes of different colors. This is where the aim of the game became clear: connect the pairs of cubes of the same color without crossing the existing connections. The task may seem very simple at the first levels that serve mostly as tutorial levels to get acquainted with the controls and the aim of the game. But after passing several levels you may find yourself surprised at how difficult it may be to connect only three pairs of cubes. And if there are four or five of them? Will it be possible?

The game offers 100 increasingly difficult levels, where the number of colored cubes pairs increases from one at the beginning levels to seven at last levels. The challenge gradually increases from level to level, so that each next level doesn’t seem easier then the previous, but it neither seems too hard. But if nevertheless you got stuck, you can use a hint that will show you the solution of the level. But spend the hints with care, as there are only 10 of them for the whole game.

The game saves the progress as you play, so that you can continue from where you have stopped. “Replay any board” option allows you to replay any of already solved levels.

The controls of the games are easy to master and convenient. The game is played with the mouse: you click on a desired cube, then just move the mouse onto the other cube of the same color to connect the cubes. What is original about this game is the animation. The developers animated a plain cubes making them the real the main characters of the game. The cubes rolls, grows and diminish, they spin and disappear. Though the game is full of animation and effects, they do not divert you from thinking on the puzzle. On the contrary, they appear just at time, making you smile and relax between brain storms.

As for the graphics, they are pleasant and attractive, though there are nothing gorgeous, only simple shapes and very nice bright colors. Though the graphics of BentBend may seem simple, there is a great designer’s job behind this apparent simplicity. The game is not only a visual delight, but is also convenient to play. Everything is very well thought out, each unit is on its place, nothing annoys you or diverts you from thinking. Colors, sizes, placements – all is done for a comfortable playing. The game has sound effects and two relaxing sound tracks. Together with the graphics they create a very nice environment that perfectly fits the game.

To make the long story short, BentBend is a very well done brain game with really good puzzles, intuitive controls, nice graphics and funny animation. It is definitely worth the attention of anyone who wants to enjoy a good brain teaser and just a nice game.
