Treading On Fresh Ground With Maruti Cervo

Ever since its arrival in the Indian market, Maruti as a brand has always dominated the small car segment and intends to stick to its reputation through the launch of another small car, Maruti Cervo. This car is meant as a competition to another small car namely the Tat Nano and hence is small not only in terms of size but with regards to budget as well.

‘Think Maruti and Think Hatchback’ is a popular thought process in the small car segment and although the brand has confirmed this with the Cervo, it has deviated a little from this signature feature in case of another launch, Maruti Kizashi. Like the Cervo this model was also launched recently although the two are totally different in terms of features and aimed at separate segments. While the Cervo is meant to replace the Maruti 800 and Alto models, Kizashi is aimed towards the Honda Accord and has been designed to serve as a sport sedan.

Described as a compact car and a five-door hatchback model, the Cervo has been equipped with a 660 cc petrol engine, which might seem small until it is tested for a power drive and made to touch its highest torque level. As a result of this technology, the engine of this car has been designed to boost the power, torque and mileage to their maximum thus providing the driver with the optimum performance. An added advantage is the minimal loss of power and increased engine efficiency both of which render this car as being fuel efficient. Over all the Cervo not only provides a comfortable driving experience but is eco-friendly as well as the percentage of emissions is greatly reduced.

Kizashi, on the other hand, resembles a sports vehicle with its pair of sharp headlamps, a two-slat grille and a high roofline. Characterized with a higher ground clearance as compared to its European counterpart, this car boasts of plush interiors, smart systems and soft touch plastic all of which make it comparable to Corolla Altis, Laura and Civic. With this model, Maruti has made an effort to improve its finish and quality of materials used within which is why the dashboard looks smart, the instrument panel is fitted with a background light and the steering wheel has toggle buttons for various modes.

On of the seminal factors which help to adjudge the acceptability of a car is the driver’s level of comfort. In case of Kizashi the seats are large and comfortable and the driver has the advantage of sitting on an electric seat which can be adjusted in 10 different ways not to mention the memory function which is also included in the package. Cervo, on the other hand, being a small car has compact interiors with reduced features courtesy of its size.

Overall it can be concluded that while the Cervo is apt for city-driving, long distance drives would be more enjoyable with the Kizashi. Within city limits, Cervo would be easier to handle as it would be easier to manoeuvre through the traffic and would not require much of parking space. Kizashi is ultimate in case of highway driving and can accelerate rapidly when desired by the driver.
