Options Trading vs Stock Trading

Many people do not the difference between stock trading and stock options trading. Those, who are new in the financial market, find it difficult to differentiate between the two. In stock trading, you buy assets of a company and become a partial owner of that company. If you own shares of a company, you also get right of sharing its profit as well. Stock trading means selling or buying shares of that particular company in which you have invested.

Stock options trading is totally different form stock trading. In stock options trading you do not buy or sell shares but you estimate the price direction of the asset. It gives you full right over your option and there is no physical transfer of shares. There is no time limit in stock trading while there is expiry time in the options trading and when the expiry of the option is over, it gets expired on its own.

In stock options trading, the buyer can buy a ‘call’ option or a ‘put’ option for a fixed time period. He has full right over his option and can sell it anytime before the expiry of the option. In options trading, the potential profit is also fixed before the trade starts and the investor know from the very starting what is maximum profit or loss from the trade. In options trading, the investor can preplan the strategies to make his option successful. The biggest difference is that options trading do not need very big amount to start the trade.
