Consequence of phosphate in industrial chemicals
Phosphate is an important raw material for industrial chemicals, of which 84 to 90% is used for fertilizer production, 3.3% for additives of fodder, 4% for detergents and the remaining for the chemical industry, light industry and defense industry. The application of phosphate in the industry has a history of more than 100 years.
There are about more than 120 varieties of phosphate minerals known in nature, which are widespread. According to their quality and quantity, however, merely a few phosphate minerals can be commercially recovered. The principal phosphate mineral from which phosphorus can be commercially extracted is apatite, with subordinate kribergite, guano and vivianite. About 95% of elemental phosphorus in nature is concentrated in apatite.
In China the Haizhou phosphate deposit (now the Jinping phosphate deposit) was found in the reign of Tongzhi (A.D. 1862~1874) of the Qing Dynasty and mined formally in 1914.
