Volkswagen polo is a fast and attractive German engineered car, with an amazing design. This is a supermini car from the Volkswagen A0 platform. Introduction of polo was in 1975 and Volkswagen group has put forward five distinct generations so far. Each generation brought out slight changes in the body style. Polo Mark I

Polo Mark l was the first-generation Polo introduced in 1975. It was a rebadged version of Audi 50. The productivity of Typ 86 polo was about 500,000 at the end of 1979. Polo (or billige polo as Norwegians call it )was cheaper than Audi models. Derby saloon, a simple Polo was released in 1977. First-generation Polo was available with 895 cc, 1093 cc and 1272 cc engines. The face lifted version of Mark l Polo was referred as Mark IF. The new version featured plastic bumpers and revised dashboard.

Polo Mark II

The introduction of Polo Mark II was in October 1981. The new generation was released with a change in the body style of Mark I. One version of Mark II, the Wagon, possessed steep rear windows and another one Coupe had diagonal rear windows. Volkswagen used a Mark II Polo to expand future innovations. To overcome the small capacity of this model, a two-cylinder diesel was incorporated in 1980s. Mark II comes with 1093 cc, 1272 cc, 1043 cc, 1.3 L and 1.4 L engines. Mark II Facelift featured square headlights, bigger bumpers, new interiors and reshaped tail-lights. Polo GT was the highest performance model in Mark II Polos.

Polo Mark III

Polo Mark III or Typ 6N was released in 1994. The models of this generation were 3 and 5 door hatchback versions. Various models were available with 1043 cc, 1272 cc, 1.6 L, 1.4 L, 999 cc petrol engines and 1.9 L diesel engine. Mark IIIF, the facelifted version of Mark III Polo was introduced in 2000. This hatchback model included new headlights and interiors. Mark IIIF exhibited a similar appearance to Mark III, with 70% new components. Sale rate of the two models of third generation Polo was incredible. Polo Playa released in 1996, designed for South African market also belongs to the third generation Polo.

Polo Mark IV

Mark IV was put on market in 2002. The design and appearance of this car is entirely different from other generations. The dimensions include 3897 mm length, 1650 mm width, 1465 mm height and wheelbase is 2460 mm.  Volkswagen Passat- style was implemented to face-lift the fourth generation Volkswagen Polo. The face-lifted model is known as Typ 9N3. Polo Vivo, CrossPolo and Polo BlueMotion are the other models in this generation.

 

 

Polo Mark V

The fifth generation of Volkswagen Polo was launched in March 2009. This car was declared as ‘European car of the year2010’. Production of new generation Polo was started in summer 2009 and was delivered in October 2009. This model is 7.5% lighter from its predecessors. Vento and CrossPolo are the editions in Mark V.

Each generation of Volkswagen Polo were introduced with slight changes in design, while improving its fuel capacity and efficiency.
