Caldwell once made a wedding gown that used recycled silk fabric from three different la femme 17472 on sale garments in the train. The gown itself was constructed from organic cotton and was completed with a gold appliqué belt that was repurposed from a vintage coat, she described.
A St. Helena resident, Caldwell said she has purchased pieces from Lolo’s Consignment on Main Street and used them in the creation of other pieces. The majority of her designs are cocktail dresses and gowns, she said, but she also has some blouses, suits, jackets, daywear and an “obi-style” belt — based on the wide Japanese sash of that name — which has become her signature accessory design.
Karen Caldwell Design was launched after years of designing her own dresses, which led to increasing requests from friends to make some for them.
“I decided to try my hand at having a small business out of it, just part-time, so that I can always be there for my family,” Caldwell said. She categorizes her sewing skills as “home ec” level and therefore enlists the talents of a woman in San Francisco to create the patterns la femme prom dress 17472 and sew the garments.
Although she said her sketching has gotten better over the years, Caldwell explained she still prefers to use fabric and a dress form to construct the initial look of each piece. “I design some things inspired by the clients, and others are just visions and creations that I have had in my head,” she said.
So Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) is over and I now sit in a café, eating my weight in eggs benedict and musing over the week that has just passed. I’m also musing over how delicious eggs benedict is but obviously that needs no further explanation. FUCK YEAH EGGS BENEDICT!
The focus of fashion week is two-fold – on the collections presented, and on the ensembles worn by those attending the shows (particularly the fashion editors, bloggers, models and celebrities). My wonderful colleagues have already discussed the collections at length so I am here to wax unpoetically about the attendees.
