Mahindra Scorpio vs Tata Safari

Indian car market is skewing towards new age compact SUVs in comparison to the old age humongous SUVs present in India. Some of the old age SUVs which have been present in India for around a decade and have also been selling in good numbers include Mahindra Scorpio SUV, Tata Safari etc. The mighty and full sized SUVs in India are now becoming boring and conventional as compared to the new age SUVs which are about bring a revolution in India. Mahindra Scorpio in India was launched 10 years back in 2002 the SUV became an instant hit with aplenty sales every month. The SUV has a sturdy design though it has also received many upgrades even since it has been launched but the best part about the SUV is that it has never been ignored by the customers. The auto maker is working aggressively to bring a replacement for the SUV though it will be named Scorpio only, the SUV will sport entirely different looks from the current generation Scorpio. Present only in diesel version, the SUV is compatible with the present growing demand for diesel powered cars in India. Mahindra Scorpio price starts at Rs 7.07 lakhs (ex-showroom price) and ranges up to Rs 12.19 lakhs (ex-showroom price). Mahindra Scorpio now comes with a 2.2 litre diesel engine that replaced the older 2.6 litre heavier diesel mill. The 2.2 litre diesel powertrain pips out maximum power of 121 Bhp and a peak torque of 290 Nm. The SUV propels from o to 100 ij 16.2 seconds and achieves a top speed of 158 kmph. Scorpio is equipped with two airbags and ABS. Scorpio offers a fuel efficiency of 10.9 kmpl in city and 15.2 kmpl on highways.

The other SUV which is present in India for over 10 years is Tata Safari. Tata Safari when initially launched looked like a box, the auto maker made a lot of changes in the SUV over the years. Still the SUV lacks in many advanced features which can be seen in contemporary hatchbacks also like the steering mounted audio controls. Tata Safari interiors are quite similar to that of Scorpio SUV. Tata Safari is equipped with a rear parking camera. The quality of the SUV has gone up substantially; it offers ample space too to the passengers. Tata Safari has a sleek and lean look. Tata Safari is housed with a 2.2 litre DICOR engine and produces a maximum power of 140Bhp and a peak torque of 320Nm. The SUV zooms from 0 to 100 in just 15.8 seconds which is less than Mahindra Scorpio. The SUV is also armed with safety features like ABS and EBD. Tata Safari delivers a mileage of 11.4kmpl in city and 16.7 kmpl on highways which is also more than Mahindra Scorpio SUV.
