Wrestling is a form of combat sport which involves grappling type techniques, such as clinch fighting, joint locks, throws and takedowns, pins and other grappling holds, and so on. This kind of sport is a physical competition between two individuals or sparring partners, who strive to acquire and keep a superior position. The techniques of this sport have been used in other martial arts and the military hand-to-hand combat systems.

Based on cave drawings in France, we can trace the origins of Wrestling back 15,000 years ago. Besides, from Babylonian and Egyptian relief, we can see wrestlers using most of the holds, which is known to us in the modern times. In ancient Greece, this kind of sport played an important role in legend and literature. Although Wrestling competition was rather brutal in a couple of aspects, it was the most important sport of the Olympic Games. The ancient Romans had got the majority of this kind of sport in Greek, but cut away a lot of its brutality. During the Middle Ages, this kind of sport remained popular and got support from many royal families in France, Japan and England.

Wrestling has 3 distinct forms, including folk style, freestyle and Greco-Roman. The first one is commonly performed in schools and colleges. The second one allows you to throw and attack the legs of your competitor. Though it would seem that tips are just thrown out with abandon, there are a huge amount of methods to rating in a freestyle match. The third one focuses on all of attacks on upper human body. You are not allowed to attack the legs in the least. And touching the legs is prohibited.

There are several takedown techniques of Wrestling. To begin with, don’t force or muscle holds that aren’t open, as it just make you tired and usually yield bad results. And then, try to relax when you are not in range. You should know that it takes valuable energy to be tense. In the end, maintain a right body position when you are in range, especially when you are walking toward the competitors. Avoid standing straight up or placing your hands near your head.

Now, more and more people show interest in Wrestling. It not only builds up health, but improves the psychological quality. With the booming of sports, this kind of sport has a bright prospect in the near future.
