Hero Cycles
In 1944, the Munjal brothers started a bicycle spare parts business in Amritsar. After the Partition, they shifted their business to Ludhiana, where they began to manufacture bicycle components. Soon, their company, Hero Cycles, started building its own line of bicycles.
Beginning with around 600 bicycles in the year 1956, today the company manufactures around 16,000 bicycles per day and is now one of the largest manufacturers of bicycles in the world.
TI Cycles
TI Cycles was set up in 1949 by the Murugappa Group, in collaboration with the Tube Investment Group of the UK. The first model to be manufactured here were the Hercules line of bikes. Later, in 1964, came the BSA. The Hercules and BSA are still among the most popular brands of bicycles in India.
TI Cycles then began to concentrate on the specialist segments – bikes for kids, girls’ bikes, and the first mountain bike in India. They introduced bikes with shock absorbers, light roadsters and the first carbon-frame bikes in the country.
TI Cycles started with a manufacturing unit in Ambattur in Chennai. They now have units in Nasik and Noida. They are one of the popular cycle manufacturers India.
Atlas Cycles
Atlas Cycles was started in 1951, in Sonepat in Haryana. The Atlas Goldline bikes and the Funfleet sports bikes are very popular in the Indian market. During the ninth Asian Games held at New Delhi in 1982, Atlas Cycles became the official supplier of bicycles for the event.
AVON Cycles
Avon Cycles Limited is the flagship company of the Avon Group. The bicycle manufacturing plant of the company is located in Ludhiana. The AVON Group makes most of the parts for their bicycles. Their popular brands of cycles include AVON, BUKE and APSARA.
Firefox
Recent entrants like Firefox have expanded the range of models available to bikers in this country. Started in 2005, Firefox introduced many international brands into India These includes all kinds of bicycles like roadsters, all-terrain bikes, kids’ bikes, BMX, and mountain bikes.
