Secret Service Car Accident Kills Pedestrian in Brooklyn

A Secret Service agent who was on duty was involved in a car accident that killed a pedestrian in Brooklyn this week. Brooklyn Police have confirmed that 47-year-old Maria Tripp, who was employed with the Parks Department, was killed in the accident. Tripp, the mother of five daughters, was taken to a Brooklyn Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Authorities have confirmed that the Secret Service agent was on duty when the car accident occurred. Though the Secret Service is most known for protecting the President of the United States and foreign heads of state who are in the U.S., they also investigate some federal crimes, as well. Sources could not confirm what the agent was doing in Brooklyn. The accident is under investigation at this time, though Brooklyn police have indicated that the driver did have the green light at the time of the accident. Although one witness indicated that the car was speeding, police did not give information as to whether or not speed was a factor in the accident.

Tripp lived just four blocks from the scene of the car accident that took her life. She was walking down Atlantic Avenue with her boyfriend, a nephew, 19, and one of her daughters who is 12. The family was on their way to pick up Tripp’s grandchild. According to Tripp’s brother, her boyfriend was able to grab the two others and move them to safety when the car was coming toward them.

Hopefully, the police investigation into the accident will reveal more information, such as whether the driver of the car was speeding or why he failed to notice the family crossing the street. But regardless of the results of the accident investigation, a family has lost a mother, grandmother, sister, and girlfriend in a car accident that could very well have been avoided. The sudden loss of a loved one is always tragic for those who are involved, but the “what-ifs” that are involved when the death is the result of a car accident are almost overwhelming.

Often, a compassionate car accident attorney who specializes in wrongful death cases can assist the family in coming to terms with that grief. Because of the injustice involved in a car accident fatality, many families find a sense of closure and resolution in having an attorney help them seek some form of justice through the courts. If you have lost a loved one in an accident that should never have happened or if you or a family member have been injured in a serious car accident in the Brooklyn area, an experienced car accident attorney in Brooklyn can help you get the justice and closure that you are seeking.
