Upgrading Your PC without Breaking Your Budget

Having a brand new computer can be great, but coming up with the funds for that new machine can be quite a challenge. For many cash strapped computer owners upgrading their existing equipment can be a more cost effective approach. With a little bit of research, some basic computer skills and a bit of hard work computer owners can create the PC of their dreams without breaking their budgets.

One of the most important things to keep in mind when upgrading an old PC is that not all upgrades are created equal. Some computer upgrades will provide excellent boosts in power and speed at a relatively low cost, while other enhancements will provide less of a benefit at a higher price. Focusing on the upgrades that providze the most benefit at the least cost will help computer owners get the greatest bang for the buck.

Perhaps the most cost effective upgrade of all is additional memory. Many owners of old and sluggish computers are simply stunned at the results an extra stick or two of memory can provide. Simply doubling the amount of RAM available to the system can make programs run faster and more efficiently while reducing crashes and other common compute problems.

Adding an additional hard drive, or replacing an existing hard drive with a larger capacity one, can also greatly increase performance. When the hard drive begins to fill up it can allocate space less effectively and this can eat into performance and cause unexplained slowness. With storage costs falling so sharply, adding an extra hard drive or replacing a nearly full hard drive with a larger one is definitely a wise investment.

Of course there are many other upgrades computer users can do, but simply adding additional memory and increasing storage capacity can provide exceptional benefits. These two basic improvements can solve many common computer problems – and they won’t break the bank.
