Ford EcoSport test mule sneaked without any camouflage

We got the opportunity to see the production version of Ford EcoSport compact SUV at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show where the prototypes of the EcoSport variants were exhibited. Ford EcoSport’s test mule has also been caught many times around the roads of India undergoing test runs. However, the compact SUV was recently seen doing test round but without any camouflage. The uncamouflaged test model of 2013 Ford EcoSport was seen at a toll plaza around Chennai, in India. The model spotted seems to be a high end version of EcoSport petrol trim, the reason why we are so sure about this test mule being the high end version of EcoSport is because the test mule was seen with the Titanium badging and reverse parking sensors present on the bumper.

Therefore this makes it clear that the high end version of EcoSport, Titanium compact SUV will get parking sensors. Under the hood will reside a 1 litre, three cylinder turbo petrol engine that has been appreciated immensely across the globe by the auto aficionados. The engine has even received accolades for being the “engine of the year”. The turbo petrol engine is robust as well as frugal can generate a maximum power of 120 Bhp and a peak torque of 200 Nm. The engine is packed with aplenty technological modifications making it an efficient engine.

This was about the petrol engine, while the diesel trim could be powered with a 1.5 litre four cylinder diesel motor that is currently powering Ford Fiesta diesel sedan. This diesel motor pumps out a peak power of 90 Bhp and a maximum torque of 200 Nm that helps in enhancing the driveability by using minimum turbo lag. The Ford Ecosport SUV will come with a length of under four meters which will help in shrinking Ford EcoSport price a little. With Renault Duster, another compact SUV making its way in the Indian car market it might be a little tough foe EcoSport, as Duster will also be priced around Rs 7 lakh.

Ford Motors India has pushed the launch date of EcoSport from 2012 to 2013, however the launch could be changed to a much earlier date as the compact SUV will be launched in Brazil and China in 2012 only. This would be the second launch from the eight new cars which Ford has planned to be launched in India by 2015. The first car to be launched from these eight cars was Ford Fiesta which was launched last year in India in the month of July. Though Ford could not get as good response as it had anticipated from the upgraded version of Fiesta, the reason cited behind this was the high price tag of Fiesta which made customers sceptical to buy this sedan. The company soon realised the price issues and slashed Ford Fiesta price. With the new EcoSport Ford might want to generate volumes, we also hope that this new product of Ford will be able to live up to the expectations of Ford India.
