Chevrolet Enjoy MPV caught testing, launch advanced to Diwali
Year 2012 witnessed commencement of a new era in the Indian car market with the augment of MPV and SUV launches. Maruti Ertiga has set the stage on fire and has led other car makers to follow the footsteps. Ertiga’s immense success has opened doors for other car makers to try their hands at the MPV segment. American auto major’s Indian arm, General Motors India is also developing a MPV named, Chevrolet Enjoy. The MPV was displayed at the 11th Auto Expo held in New Delhi in the month of January.
The MPV was expected to hit Indian shores by the end of the year, but rumour mill suggest that the MPV launch has been advanced to Diwali. Enjoy was also seen testing around the roads of India therefore it is being speculated that the launch could be advanced to Diwali. Chevrolet Enjoy Price in India could fall in the range of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh. Many new cars have been slated to launch during Diwali, it is considered to be an auspicious time to launch new cars as customers tend to buy new cars during this time.
Chevrolet Enjoy will be priced lower than Chevrolet Tavera MPV. The spy shots of the MPV reveal that it will not come with alloy wheels and will get steel wheels instead. Bumpers were also not body coloured and even the fog lamps were missing from the MPV. Along with these, the vehicle was not coloured in metallic shade. Probably these are the ways through which Chevrolet will cut down on cost. This further implies that Enjoy could be priced lower than Maruti Ertiga MPV. Manufacturing level will be high to avoid long waiting period. Interiors of the MPV are speculated to be done in black and beige.
Chevrolet has slated launch of three new products in India starting with Chevrolet Sail hatchback followed by Chevrolet Sail sedan and during Diwali, Enjoy will be launched. At such a low price, Chevrolet Enjoy has the potential to become a major hit in the domestic market. Under the hood will be a 1.3 litre multijet diesel motor and a 1.4 litre petrol mill. Chevrolet Tavera MPV is a popular vehicle in the taxi segment and it seems that the company is eyeing to position Enjoy as a taxi. Auto aficionados suggest that Chevrolet Enjoy will be priced less than Nissan Evalia, it is going to be a mass segment product eyeing to generate volumes.
With the addition of Chevrolet Enjoy in the MPV segment, customers will get another option in the low priced vehicle segment. These MPVs which are priced close to the premium hatchbacks are a better alternative for the customers who are willing to spend this much money as MPVs offer better space and are more comfortable than hatchbacks.
