How to create organic gardens

Organic gardens are becoming increasingly popular for homeowners these days. Not only is a home organic garden nice to have in the front or backyard, but it is a great source of healthy vegetables that are free. In addition, you are sure that the yields are indeed natural and organic. There’s no need to doubt whether non-organic fertilizers were used on the vegies because you planted them yourself. And the best part is that gardening is a fun experience, a great way to relax after a tiresome day at work. There are so many advantages and reasons as to why you should start your own organic garden today.

If you do decide wisely to get started now, you won’t need to look any further for instructions. Here are the steps to follow if you are building an organic garden.

Starting out on the garden construction

This involves gathering the tools and equipment, as well as the seeds, which you will be using to build your garden. Ready your gardening gloves, rototillers, compost makers, floating row covers, garden spades, hoes, garden hoses, vegetable seeds, annual plants, perennial plants and organic fertilizers. Find a place to set up your garden. Any place in the backyard or front yard with ample sunshine and healthy soil is a good choice to start your garden.

Pick the place in your front or backyard that receives sunshine half of the day, at least. An exposed area that receives sunshine for a longer period is a better choice. The place needs an easy access to water. There should be a tap nearby for the garden hose. Note, however, that the lawn sprinklers may not be able to provide the exact amount of water necessary. You also need to be precise when watering the plants, so automation isn’t really a good idea at this point.

Clear the weeds in the area. Dig the roots before pulling them. Mow the soil as needed. Rake out the debris and till the soil. You have to make sure that the soil drains well. Otherwise, you may need to set up an elevated garden. Too much water can drown your seedlings.

Start improving your soil’s quality by adding organic fertilizers, composts and greensand. Use sulfur only when necessary. Do tests on the soil to determine which compounds are missing, and fill them in accordingly. Once the soil has been prepared completely, it is finally time to start planting.

Planting

This is a wholly different process that varies between different types of plants. Make sure that you do research on which type of seed you are planting. Look for common diseases and steps in planting to make sure that you plant correctly. Due to the fact that the directions for planting different types of vegetables and flowers are highly diverse, you will need to do manual research on individual plants that you want to have in your garden.

Maintenance

Taking care of organic gardens require constant effort from your side. Make sure that you tend to your garden regularly. Clear the weeds and water the plants as needed.

If you really want your organic garden to complement your house, make sure that you also take the landscape design into consideration!
