What to Do When You Forget To Buy Your Wedding Shoes

It’s your wedding day; the day that many of you have been waiting for your entire lives. You have so many things to think about: where to find the money for the party of a lifetime; which dress to choose; how to dress the groom, the bridesmaid, the mother of the bride, the flower girls, the page boy, and of course, the bride; which venue to choose; what to offer on the menu; what time of year to have the wedding, what time of day, and where. The intricacies of planning a wedding are immense – so difficult, in fact, that many people use the services of a wedding planner. However, no matter how well prepared, something is always missed, and often, this something/s are the wedding shoes.

Here, we provide a quick guide for choosing wedding shoes; if you have left it until the last minute, then do not worry, you can turn this around by following our simple rules.

First of all, you need to consider whose shoes are missing. Depending on whether it is the bride, groom, bridesmaid, page boy or guest, you will need to make different choices. Let us look at each in turn.

  • For the Bride: The bride is the most important. There are a few rules here. One, if you have a dual theme wedding, e.g. red and gold, then you can choose shoes in either colour – providing you have a sash, or such decoration, on your wedding dress in the same colour. Otherwise, if you are wearing a white dress, then it is always safe to wear white shoes – the same is true of any colour.
  • For the Groom: The groom is one of the easiest people to choose shoes for. They, providing you are having a traditional wedding, just need a traditional pair of shoes – e.g. oxfords, brogues, or wingtips. Choose black or brown, unless wearing a white suit, in which case you will need to choose shoes that create less of a contrast as black on white.
  • For the Bridesmaids: In a traditional wedding, the bridesmaids usually wear shoes of the same colour as their dresses – so again, pretty easy.
  • For the Pageboys: Simply follow the rules for the Groom.

OK, so now you know which shoes to buy, you need to find somewhere that will deliver the shoes in time for the wedding. If you have left it too late, i.e. you have one day until your wedding, then you will have to visit your local shops to make sure that the shoes arrive in time. If you have a few days left (two or three, for example), then you should use an online store. Choose an online store that allows for express delivery (between one and two days); this will ensure your shoes arrive on time. You will find that the online shoe shops have far more choice than you are likely to find in the high street, and they can certainly rescue you from this common wedding dilemma.
