Go Pure With Organic Coconut Oil

Organic coconut oil, naturally produced without the use of fertilizers or synthesizers or pesticides or hormones or chemicals. Organic coconut oil originates from coconuts grown in organically-certified plantations. This ensures a supply of high-quality coconuts and smooth, light, and creamy coconut oil. This is achieved by making use of meat of fresh coconut as opposed to dry coconut meat. High heating and chemicals cannot be used to further refine the virgin coconut oil.

One process is where meat of fresh coconut is dried up quickly and then coconut oil is pressed out using mechanical means. Minimum heat (below 60 degrees centigrade) is applied to dry up fresh coconut meat quickly. In another process, coconut milk is taken out from the fresh coconut and oil are then separated using methods like fermentation, mechanical centrifugation, boiling, refrigeration, and enzymes.

There is a traditional method in the Philippines to produce high-quality coconut oil by fermenting the coconuts which are freshly harvested for 24 to 36 hours. This is the time required for the water to separate from the oil. Then the oil is only slightly heated to remove moisture and filtered. The outcome is the coconut oil of high-quality that takes in the scent which is distinct and the coconut’s taste. Laboratory studies on quality maintained in coconut oil show a very high content of lauric acid greater than 50% in fresh coconut oil.

Most commercially-available coconut oils are made from copra, which is the dried meat of coconuts, not the fresh meat. The coconut oil extracted from copra is unfit for consumption until it is refined or purified. The standard oil made from copra is RBD, refined, bleached, and deodorized, for which high heat and clay filtration have to be used and hence cannot be considered virgin or raw.

The main difference between organic coconut oil and non-organic coconut oil lies in the difference in the taste, the scent and manufacturing process. Organic coconut oil retains the taste of the original fresh coconut whereas RBD coconut oil has no scent of the coconut as it is lost during the process of refining. Always look for certified organic coconut oil if you want non-chemically processed product.

It is scientifically shown that organic coconut oil comprises the best ingredient in a skin lotion as it is an antioxidant and prevents the chain reaction of forming free radicals and penetrates into deep tissues of the skin and removes the outer layers of dead skin cells. Beauticians swear by organic coconut oil as the best hair lubricant, moisturizer, softener, and conditioner, and it works better on the hair than a medicated shampoo.

As for cooking, other refined oils can be called as “junk oils” when compared to organic coconut oil. In other words, organic coconut oil is the most stable and long-lasting oil when it comes to high heat applications as it resists formation of trans-fats and free radicals. It is non-hydrogenated, thus is it least damaging to your health when used in cooking.
