One man’s passion for racing
1951 was the year that Andrew Lovelace Evans entered this world. Twelve year after that year he witnessed a Can-Am race. While witnessing this race the passion to become a race driver was ignited. He imagined himself driving a car at around 100 miles per hour and the thought brought him joy. His passion was not restricted to racing; it included a passion for race cars.
Ferrari was the car company that caught his imagination and Andrew Lovelace Evans did nothing to hide this feeling from the world. He started to his racing career by paying his dues. This was not the route taken by most drivers. He however restricted his passion to a mere hobby during the 1980s. When he fell into bad times he started considering racing as a profession. The International Motor Sports Association was impressed with his focus and dedication that they allowed him to race in their Camel GT Lights class category in the year 1990. Before the decade could end his tire tracks could be seen on some of the legendary tracks that one could find in Europe and the Untied States.
Andrew Lovelace Evans however wanted to take this passion to the next level. To do this he formed his own team called Team Scandia. The next step he took was to fill his team with some of the best drivers at that time. Team Scandia started to participate in some of the toughest races that one could find in the United States. In the year 1995 they won the ’12 Hours of Sebring’ and they did so using a Ferrari. The last time a Ferrari car was used to win this race was in the year 1972. Ferrari was very pleased with this win. In fact so pleased that they enabled him to directly buy the F50, an option that it gave no one else.
