Decorating a room that’s fit for kids

More often than not, we think that decorating a kid’s room is child’s play.  It not all about getting in the nice dolls, furry stuffed animals and building blocks.  It may still require some careful planning, lots of creativity and above all, it should be fun!

There are many ways to go about decorating kids’ bedrooms or playrooms.  You could go with a theme or start with a blank slate.  Decorating children’s rooms may also depend on their gender.  Kids grow up really quickly.  So if you want a room that will grow up with your child, you may also want to consider the flexibility the kids’ furniture that you are going to bring in.

When it comes to choosing themes, be careful about choosing themes that you imagined you wanted growing up, but would not necessarily fit your children’s personalities or preferences.  It is their space after all.  So if your children are old enough to know what they want for a theme, it is always best to ask them first.  Usually, boys like themes that center around their favorite animals, maybe Safari-inspired, rain forest, outer space or their favorite sport.  Boys would definitely go for Intergalactic Twin Duvet Set  or the Sub Adventure Twin Duvet Set beddings for their rooms.  Girls would usually like princess-themed rooms, pretty colors, beach themes, flowers or moon and stars.  You can use beddings such as Playhouse Park Designer Youth Bedding Set or Super Swirl Contemporary Youth Bedding Set for girls’ bedrooms.

Actually, the best time to build a kid’s room is when they are still a baby.  You could start with having blank walls and just bring in the basic furniture like kids’ beds, storage or dressers.  You do not necessarily need to paint the walls in primary colors.  Boys’ rooms do not need to be blue and girls’ rooms do not need to be pink.  You could start with plain white, cream or any pastel color and just add the colors and decors on as your child grows up.  You could have your child’s drawings framed and use them as décor, or you could engage your child to help you paint the furniture when he/she is old enough.

If you intend for your child to have a room they could still be comfortable in when they grow up to become teens, you can bring in some modern furniture that should be able to withstand your child’s changing moods and preferences.  Beds like the Tulip – Panda Double Bed  or the Celeste Kids Bedroom set will surely be appreciated by fast-growing kids for their classic designs with a modern twist.  If your child likes having a friend sleep over, the Ayres Twin Bed w/Trundle Bed will be perfect for his/her bedroom.  If you want additional storage capacity, you could choose between the Campaign Youth Bed or the Morgan Twin/Full Size Youth Bed.
