Echo Of Sprit

It has been a long time since Leona Lewis released her sophomore effort ”Echo”. After winning the third series of reality singing contest The X Factor in December 2006, Leona has become more and more famous to be a superstar around the world. I first found Leona Lewis one day when I was browsing on an online wholesale seller looking for a green beam laser pointer. The song, “A Moment Like This”, came up and I gave it a try. It was worthy of my purchase. As soon as I received the CD with my wholesale laser pointer, I had been playing it for thousands of times in my CD player. This is, without a doubt, one of the most diverse albums I’ve ever heard.

On 16th November 2009, Leona Lewis released her second studio album named “Echo” in the United Kingdom by Syco Music, and followed by 17 November 2009 in the United States under J Records. The album has achieved commercial success which has so far sold over 2 million copies worldwide. However, this album is obviously not as good as former one but still contains some catchy hits. Here are 14 tracks on the album of original version. I love 3 of them so much. These are my own reviews to the songs I am hooked on as follows:

Happy – As the lead single off the album as well as the opening track of the album, “Happy” is a little bit similar to Bleeding Love in the fact that it starts off slow and builds in the chorus with nice lyrics and arrangement. Especially the drum beat is very much the same. As the first single, it is released to download in the United States and Canada in September 2009, and worldwide in November 2009. It reached number 31 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number 15 in the Canadian Hot 100.

I Got You – Upbeat, cheerful, this sounds like it can be the opening theme song for a TV show. Actually, it was released as the second single in the UK on 21 February 2010 and peaked at number 14 on the UK Singles Chart and number 3 on the UK R&B Chart. I love the midtempo beat in the song. This is absolutely a nice song you could dance to under the rays of laser pen pointers at some clubs.

Brave – In my eyes, it is the best song on the record with Middle Eastern influences. It has the expansive, epic vibe that made Leona Lewis stand out from her competitors. With this song, it’s not the production but her voice that is on display. This song also starts off slow and builds to the chorus. I do enjoy the Middle Eastern theme which makes it stand out from “Happy”.

As a whole, this is a follow-up album to the highly successful debut one which is also worth listening. However, this album titled definitely lives up to its name; so many songs on the album are more like continuation of the former album lack of personality and creation. Anyhow, “Echo” has some tracks that show off Lewis’ impressive vocal abilities which are nice and catchy. In a word, this is a good record which offers nothing beyond the anticipated.
