Scrapping Your Car In The UK

All cars have to be scrapped at some point. Maybe its no longer economical to repair or its simply its rusting away. So how do you scrap a car ?

Firstly whichever company you choose to scrap your vehicle they must be an authorised company who will make sure that it’s dismantled in an environmentally friendly way. You should also receive a Certificate of Destruction (CoD) straight away if they agree to take your vehicle. They should also inform the DVLA to let them know you are no longer responsible for the vehicle. Keep the certificate as proof that the vehicle has been destroyed and you’re no longer responsible for it. Its extremely important that you obtain a COD. If you sell the vehicle and it somehow finds its way back onto the road then you may be held responsible for any fines, accidents that occur whilst it is on the road. etc.

There are lots of authorised scrap dealers who will collect your car. Do a Google search and submit your details to a few to get the best price for your scrap car. Before you agree to sell your car make sure they will provide you with a COD and also let them know of anything that may affect the collection or your vehicle including flat tyres or no keys. On the day of collection ensure you remove all your personal posessions and the tax disc if its still current. You can claim back any unused tax back from the DVLA
