Can 2011 eventually be the Year of the Electric Scooters?
Despite what you might see in the papers, 2011 is going to be difficult on most of us. Austerity measures are sweeping the globe and massive financial challenges are being put on people – especially those in the western world and the US. On top of all others, one economic difficulty is rearing its head more definitively – fuel costs. May aspects of our daily lives will suffer in 2011, specifically those where money can be saved, such as transport or daily commuting costs. This will lead to a massive growth in sales for more cost-sensitive modes of traveling, particularly; public transport, vehicle sharing and downsizing. How will the common person downsize? Well, one group of products that will benefit from these cost-saving measures will be the 50cc and 125cc scooters that produce more miles for less money.
In 2010, market reports suggested that the motorcycle industry had been hit particularly hard by the downturn. The inescapable fact of 2011 is that travel costs are rising and we are all under more stress to get ‘more for less’ and this is why we will see a resurgence in learner legal 125cc scooters hitting the roads. But that won’t be the end of eco-friendly travel. Electric is the in thing and there is a huge and growing trend for 125cc electric scooters. You might think this is all a bit too sci-fi but it’s not – electric scooters are coming and you better have your charger at hand.
Even now, ahead of the craze of electric has really set in, we’ve seen a surge in interest for one distinct scooter model; the Tamoretti Electric Retro 125cc Scooter. Tamoretti have already reported that their orders are exponential for the trendy little scooter and its no surprise. The 125cc electric scooter from Tamoretti will mark one of the very first to hit UK stores. The scooter will be on the market for test runs from May and will be available to buy from April from a select range of UK garages. It will be comparable to petrol varieties in terms of efficiency, with a top speed of 45km per hour, a maximum range of 45km and will only take between 5-8 hours for a full charge. If all of that didn’t sound attractive enough to you, the new electric model will shy away from industry norms and come in at a price that is not only comparative to existing models, but in many cases is actually cheaper too, coming in at an exceptional ?1299 inc VAT. That price is better value than even some of the existing 50cc and 125cc scooters presently on the market and what’s more, once you have the scooter, after your electric bills are paid, there are effectively no other costs. The ideal solution for tight-fisted living.
