When the first movie in the franchise of Smurfs was released in 1965, audiences immediately embraced these members. However, the wait for the second movie was prolonged till 1976. Since then, the Smurfs are out of action. When Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia Pictures acquired the film rights in 2008, a new lease of life was given to these wonderful animated members. The plot of the film is unique and intriguing. The movie is set in the Middle Ages where a nefarious wizard Gargamel discovers the Smurf’s village and wants to destroy it. The Smurfs get scattered and one of them named Clumsy Smurf wanders into forbidden grotto.
Some other Smurfs also follow the suit and enter into the same grotto. When they enter into this cave, on a magical blue moon night, a miraculous portal within the grotto transports them into the Central Park of the modern day New York. As they meander aimlessly, a married couple Patrick and Grace Winslow give them shelter and help them find their way back into their village and community before Gargamel finds them.
