Great Tasting Crisps

If you love crisps, you will probably find that it is a lifelong passion. Once you have the crisp bug they are almost impossible to resist. There is nothing like sitting down in front of your favourite TV show or movie with a glass of your favourite tipple and a packet of your favourite potato snack.

However, for a real treat you really should try some upmarket packets. They really are much nicer than the ones you grew up with, although, of course, there is still a place for them in your store cupboard.

The Best Crisps

If you are used to cheap mass produced crisps, gourmet crisps are a real revelation. There is really no comparison between the two products. They are so different you would not know that you were eating the same ingredient combination.

This is because in reality you are not actually eating the same thing. Yes, they are all potatoes sliced thinly, cooked in oil and sprinkled with flavouring, but the quality of the ingredients used is so different. In many cases, the cooking process is also slightly different.

Some crisps are so good that they have actually won awards, and these are the ones you really want to search out and try. There are some unusual flavours to choose from, the more unusual the better they taste.

Can You Make Your Own Gourmet Crisps?

In theory, it is easy to make your own potato snacks. After all you need to do is to peel a few potatoes, slice them thinly, heat up the oil and cook the ultra thin slices of potato. However, if you have actually tried it you will already know it is not as easy as that.

The task of cutting the potatoes thinly enough is the biggest challenge. Even using a very sharp mandoline or a food processor with a built in slicer you cannot achieve the same level of thinness crisp manufactures do. When you come to cook your crisps, you will find most of them will not cook right through and they tend to go limp very quickly. It is far better to treat yourself the next time you are out shopping.

Fairfield Farm Crisps are a real treat. They were only launched in 2006, but have already won several awards and are delicious.
