Korean Air Lines shares a similar history as many others in terms of building their company into a respected passenger carrier. Seoul Korea is the primary hub for South Korea’s airlines. Korean air, in the late 2000s, has earned its spot as one of the top airlines in the world. They have expanded their business, since 1969, to over 150 times in size. With over 120 aircraft and nearly as many destinations around the world, they have come a long way. Korean Air is a founding member of SkyTeam which is an aviation consortium.

In 2007, Korean Air had almost 17,000 employees documented. At another point during the year, they revealed their intentions to participate in on-ground transportation railway lines. As expected, they ended up developing a reasonably priced carrier that wouldn’t drain your bank account. Another feature was to lessen the already stringent security checks for internal, domestic flights with this newer offering. Korean Air’s answer is called, Jin Air, and it began operations in the summer of 2008. This is a subsidiary of the company and consists of appropriate range A300 and B737 aircraft.
The upper deck area of Korean Air’s A380 was the first ever offered to only business class travelers. Korean Air, in late 2009, announced their plans to expand their current fleet. They planned to order five Boeing 747-8 aircraft to improve intercontinental flights. This would be a $1.5 billion decision. This is the same type of aircraft that this company uses for air cargo flights. Early on, Korean Air became involved with cargo flights, similar to other airlines. It is the international demand for transporting cargo that continues to fuel this business. The reason is that it is more cost effective to move cargo internationally than it is a plane full of passengers. The area of cargo flights has proven to be very worthwhile for Korean Air. A new cargo hub has recently opened up in Central Asia that will be a service point between parts of Europe and Asia in 2010.
