Green Cleaning: Home-made Carpet Cleaning Solutions

Spring is finally here and it’s time to get some job done at home. To do your annual spring cleaning you’ll probably have to take a few days off from work in order to it properly since it has many major aspects. And one of them is the floor covers such as carpets and rugs. Nowadays a lot of home owners don’t even bother to cover their floors with these accessories because it is too hard to maintain them. But if you’re a little bit old-fashioned and you still have some carpets lying around your house, you don’t need to buy expensive detergents in order to clean them properly. Here are some tips on how to mix some environment friendly carpet cleaning solutions.

If you want to bring your carpets to their previous glory and restore their looks, you can prepare a home-made carpet cleaning solution by mixing the following ingredients:
• ¼ cup of salt
• ¼ cup of white vinegar
• ½ cup of borax (also known as sodium borate)
You can put the ingredients into a spray bottle, thus it will be easier to apply. Make sure to shake the bottle well in order to mix the ingredients properly. To start the carpet cleaning procedure just apply some of  the mixture on a stain and start scrubbing with a brush (an old toothbrush will also do the trick). London carpet cleaning claims that this compound is great for stains caused by spilled drinks such as wine, coffee or fruit juice.

Here’s another green carpet cleaning solutions that also dose a great job. You just mix these ingredients into a spray bottle:
• 3-4 tablespoons of baking soda
• 2 teaspoons of  dish-washing liquid
Fill what’s left with warm water and shake well. To begin the carpet cleaning process, apply the cleaning solution directly on a dirty spot and start scrubbing with a brush. When the spot is completely clean, rinse the treated area with warm water and hang your carpet to dry.

If you posses a steam cleaner, you can “load” this cleaning weapon with a mixture of 1 part white vinegar and 4 parts water. Do not underestimate the power of the vinegar. It is actually a pretty effective sanitizer. It will kill all of the accumulated bacteria on every carpet at your home thus it will eliminate all the unpleasant smell.

I hope that you will follow my advice and “think green” for the sake of our environment. These methods are not only more than effective but they are also very cheap so everyone can afford to clean their carpets properly and contribute to the well-being of mother Earth.
