I’ve always been ambivalent about the Webb case
Her music career blossomed while studying for a degree in Art and Textile Design, in the early 90s. Encouraged by friends she recorded her debut album, Zvakanaka that did not do well probably because of Cocktail Dresses marketing.
The musician, who is also the Unicef Goodwill Ambassador Against Child Abuse established herself as a force to reckon with during the new millennium as she released popular songs on her every album.
She has eight albums under her name and the songs are laden with strong messages that have touched the hearts of many and these include Huyai Ishe, Mumaoko, Nokuti Wakanaka, Fara Zvakadaro and Tatenda Taona among others.
Prior to the show, the much-decorated diva has said the show was a platform to reconnect with her fans.
“The show affords me the platform to preach the gospel through music. In fact, it gives me a platform to reach out to many people, as gospel music seeks to provide entertainment and the word of God.”I promise to give fans the beat since it has been a long time since I last performed here,” she said.True to her word, the show lived to its billing and it will remain engraved in the minds of many.
On the same week that Hubert Webb got acquitted, former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos got vindicated and got some sequestered properties back while the case against Hayden Kho was dismissed purportedly because it was impossible for Katrina Halili – one of many girls who got victimized – not to have noticed that a camera was recording the whole thing.
I’ve always been ambivalent about the Webb case because I didn’t – couldn’t – buy the theory that the weaknesses in the prosecution’s case was caused by the influence of former Senator Freddie Webb. There’s only so much influence can do in this country particularly when media attention is focused on a case. Besides, it’s not as if Lauro Vizconde didn’t have influence as well.
The former first lady continues to maintain that her family did not steal the government and the Filipino people blind during the Marcos dictatorship.
