Seiko New Generation E-Ink Watch

The illustrious watch manufacturer Seiko has redefined the frontiers of mechanical achievement by introducing its revolutionary breathtaking Seiko new generation E-Ink watch, experiencing its world premiere at Baselworld 2010. The latest Seiko E-Ink watch features sturdy construction and a meticulously elaborated powerful design, created according to the stringent standards of the iconic brand.

The technology that spurs this e-ink watch into overdrive is its active matrix display — the same type of screen technology behind your typical LCD panel. With 80,000 pixels rendering in four shades of gray, each capable of displaying four levels of gray even within the restricted dimensions of a wristwatch screen, each information item on the screen is rendered 3 times finer than anything you can find on conventional LCD watches.

While manufacturing the new E-Ink watch, its makers wanted to come up with an over-sized panel, with almost infinite display choices of the new E-Ink Active Matrix technology. They also wanted to make the watch really easy-to-wear. The solution is a 1mm-wide area around the display that also allows maximizing the screen area.

The clip gives you a sense of the E-Ink display’s capabilities—it can produce some decent graphical elements and allows you to switch between a variety of digital watch faces—and also gives you a sense of how shiny the watch’s band is.

With the new generation EPD watch, Seiko has succeeded in reducing the power consumption – the watch uses only 1/100th of the power required to run a display of the same size, utilizing the contemporary e-Book technology.
