The Life Changer That You Need to Know Now!

Let’s talk about purpose shall we? Oh I know I know, – you already know your purpose right? Work. Going to the job daily to generate the bucks is not a purpose; it is a justification for going to work. Let me repeat so you understand- it is not the purpose of what you do. It seems to make sense and that is a logical thought process. I can kind of understand how that kind of thinking develops. But it is a huge error to think in that manner. This flawed thought process often leads to low morale and a lack of motivation. The powerful well of motivation is drained when you dont have a specific purpose. So you need to think about this.

Let’s talk about the definition of purpose. The way I define purpose is the reason you are on the planet. So what are you on the planet anyway?

So how the heck do you find your purpose anyway? It’s actually easy as pie. 1) Go to a temple somewhere in the world 2) Enter the temple 3) Ask for the wise man in the robes 4) Ask ” So what is my purpose master?” 5) Wait for it 6) Leave this place right away and apply it . O.K. I am just joking- its not that easy. There are a lot of twists and turns on your journey to finding your purpose. Now the bad news- it’s going to require some work and effort and study. After all you are trying to determine your life’s work. There are people that discover it by stumbling over it. I find that most folks though just have to work at it. Let me give you some techniques for fiinding it:

The Sheet- Take out a pen and some paper ( your choice as to what kind) The more colorful and vibrant the better. Write down a list of all of your strengths. (Come on now dont be shy- it is just a list.) People have said to you at times ” boy you are really good at that.” Those are called your strengths. Now we have a page filled with a list of strengths gifts and talents. Stare at it. So do any patterns emerge? Any themes? Looking at the list let’s say it is filled with things like tools, motors, hardware, maps, slide rulers, or welders. Maybe the theme for you is you are a builder of some kind and your purpose is to build something.

Questions and Answers Grab your favorite pen or pencil and go somewhere where you can think. Go through and answer these questions: 1) What matters the most to you? Why? 2) Fill in the blank: I was put on the earth to _____________ 3) Do you think you have talents you were meant to use? Why? Are you using them? If not why not? 4) What are 2-3 things you have to get done in this lifetime? 5) At the end of my life what do I want to have accomplished? Once you have completed these questions you have some additional ideas about your purpose.

Ask others Pick 10 people that you either know or have known and take an informal survey. (Okay this one requires some real honest to goodness guts) Ask them what they think you are “meant to do”. Ask your Mom, your Grandma, or your crazy Uncle Larry. Ask your golf buddy, a co-worker. Now you are wondering why I am asking you to do this crazy exercise. Sometimes other people can see things in you that you can’t. They may give you’re a different view. As you get answers from people you have to be willing to sort through and edit the answers. Be careful not to pick people who are negative or critical. This can be very valuable feedback and may lead to a revelation from the person you least expect it from.
