But for a sports fan especially a basketball aficionado, moving to Minnesota means being closer to the Minnesota Timberwolves of the National Basketball Association.

The state is rich with basketball history as the current Los Angeles Lakers used to be the Minneapolis Lakers who left for the glitz and glamour of L.A. in 1960. The basketball fever in Minnesota was revived in 1989 when the NBA gave the state one of the four expansion teams granted that year. Along with the Timberwolves, the Magic, Heat, and the Hornets were the four expansion teams that year.

Although the first few years of the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise are woeful, the Metrodome where the team played is always filled with fans. In April 17, 1990, the Metrodome hosted the third largest crowd in an NBA game. That was the last game of the regular season and although the T-Wolves lost to the Denver Nuggets, the turnout shows that the fans in the state of Minnesota love their NBA team.

Through the years, plenty of big names have played for the Timberwolves but one guy stands out and that is Kevin Garnett. The team drafted him coming out of high school and he proved to be one of the best picks in the history of the franchise so far. Although Garnett never carried the team to a Finals appearance, his stats and his attitude will always be something that Timberwolves fan will always be remembered.

As for the future, the team is on the process of rebuilding. What they got after trading Kevin Garnett to the Boston Celtics two years ago is the service of Al Jefferson. Then using the draft, they got OJ Mayo although they traded him for Kevin Love who is turning out to be a good player for the team. Furthermore, the team owns the rights to Spanish basketball sensation Ricky Rubio. Although after being drafted, Rubio chose to go back to Spain, he is expected to suit up for the Timberwolves during the 2011-12 NBA season. Meanwhile, Jonny Flynn from Syracuse is holding down the fort in the point guard position.

If you positively love basketball, moving to Minnesota would be a good experience especially right now with the prices of MN homes is still low. Also, real estate taxes in the state of Minnesota are relatively lower.
