Admission to the different Engineering institutes in the country requires good marks in 10+2 with good knowledge of physics chemistry and mathematics. The aspirant have to write entrance exam conducted at all national level to get admission to the premier colleges of country. The Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) viz, Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee, along with 20 National Institute of Technologies (NITs), along with IIITs and many private colleges are working in the task of developing future engineers. The colleges in India which have created milestones and make their separate identity among world’s engineering colleges are following.

The establishment for the Indian institute of technology within the country was founded in the year 1946 by the Executive Council of Viceroy, Sir Jogendra Singh. The major objective was to establish technical institutes which can add to the technical advancement in India. During 1950, the first IIT was establish in Kharagpur. During 1961 some more colleges were established in the cities Mumbai, Kanpur, Chennai and Delhi. IIT Guwahati was founded in the year 1994. During the year 2001, University of Roorkee was awarded the status of IIT. This count for the seventh college of IIT.
IIT Entrance Test
(A) Undergraduate programs:
While Indian institute of technology joint entrance exam is the entrance exam for taking admission to any of the bachelor degree programs, for B.Des and B Arch separate aptitude exam have to be given along with JEE.
(B)Postgraduate programs: For admission in Postgraduate programs in Indian Institutes of technology, one have to appear in the required entrance test.

* JAM entrance exam (Msc)

About 3 lakh candidates are graduated in different engineering programs in 2010, while only 30,000 can continue their study for doing master programs and 1,000 Ph.Ds were rewarded that year, according to the research on ‘Engineering Education in India’, done by two professors of IIT Bombay.
Doctorate degrees and programs in engineering are less than one per cent of graduate engineering programs. The proportion is much more for other countries like the United States (having 9 per cent), Britain ( having 10 per cent) and Germany (having 8 per cent). ”
