It was approved by Food and Drug Administration in 1999, since then, it has been widely used to treat type II, or adult onset diabetes. However, there were many Avandia side effects noticed. Government reports linked Avandia with heart attack.
Avandia did help the diabetic patients but it also increased the rate of heart problems by 43%. Once this was discovered, the government immediately suggested that the sufferers should immediately replace the diabetes medication. The shocking news disclosed by the Institute for Safe Medical Practice was that Avandia is ranked one for serious side effects and fatalities. The World Health Organization had also sent a warning to the manufacturer in the same regards. There are some FDA officials who are advocating that Avandia be withdrawn from the market because of the risk involved.
