Guess what might escape from your hot tub?

There are many god reasons to cover your hot tub.Things might sneak in. Things might sneak out. Yes, a hot tub cover is a lot like the door of your car. Best keep it closed and locked, for safety and for privacy.Read on to find out why…

Let’s think about what you do when you arrive at the parking garage/your parking spot/a place to park your car, there are certain things you do. Parking comes first, naturally. Next, off goes the engine. You next gather all the things you brought along with you – whatever you’ll need to have with you at your desitination. Then you close the door. And you lock it.

That last step is critical. You wouldn’t just leave the door wide open. Why? So that nothing breaks in or escapes out (Stop looking at me that way; how should I know what (or whom) you lock up in your car?) Closing door means that until you return, you know that no burglar, escapee from the local psychiatric institution, hotwiring teenage joy-rider, animal or fleeing terrorist will run away (or drive away) with it.

There is a vehicle that needs a closed door in your backyard, too. It’s called a (drum roll please)hot tub…and it can take you places that your car simply can’t. It can take you toa world of relaxation and peace, perhaps even toa planet the other side of nowehere in particular.

And when the trip is over and you return to earth, what do you do? What steps do you take? You step out. You grab your towel (maybe in the reverse order). You grab your mug or your book, and you head into the house. Oh, wait… before heading back into your house, you put the cover on your hot tub.

ust like in your car, you don’t want anything to sneak in or climb out while you are away, especially in Canada’s climate. (Hey – stop looking at me like that!)

KEEP THINGS OUT

What could possibly fall in while you are in the house or out running errands, if you fail to replace the hot tub?

– leaves might fall from nearby trees and bushes
– trash blowing in the wind (the more debris in the spa, the more chemicals you’ll need to use, the more frequently you’ll have to clean, and the more often you’ll need to replace the filter, which might not work as effectively as it should with all the debris accumulating.)
– insects (Yuck! Creepy crawly bugs!)
– small animals (You don’t want to wake up to a dead racoon floating in your hot tub, do you?)
-children (Yes, just like swimming pools, hot tubs can drown a small child who wanders in by mistake.)
– vandals, who are just wandering the neighbourhood looking to make mischief of their time

KEEP THINGS IN

What could possibly crawl from the hot tub while you’re gone? I know, I know – there you go looking at me funny again. But there is something in your hot tub. You do keep something in your hot tub that can sneak out of…two things, in fact: money and heat.

A hot tub costs you a lot of money to heat. Hot tubs are expensive to run. They cost a lot to keep heated. Even when you turn down the heat during the week or while you are away, keeping the hot tub hot is a fairly costly proposition. Leaving your tub exposed allows the heat to escape in several ways:

– The sun evaporates the water, which then needs to be replaced and heated.
– The night air cools the water, along with everything else.
– Steam rises, taking heat with it.
– The wind blows across the hot tub and cools the water.

As heat escapes, up, up and away go your heating bills. The more heat escapes, the most you have to pay to reheat the water. So a spa is not just an investment in protecting your tub from all manner of debris and flotsam from falling into your hot tub. It is also a valuable tool for restraining the sizable costs of keeping the “hot” in hot tub. If you look at the net cost, your hot tub costs you nothing; it actually makes you money. It actually reduces your expenses

As the owner of a hot tub or spa, a cover is a no-brainer decision. There are many styles to choose from, and they can easily be custom-fitted for any size or shape of tub. Whatever your spa is, wherever it is located, a hot tub cover is a wise investment.
